Down The Line

Some fantastic comedy has come out of Radio 4 over the years, many later becoming high-profile TV shows. I could research and give loads of hexamples but I can’t be arsed. Have I Got News For You and Who’s Line Is It Anyway are two that spring to mind though.

Anyway. Down The Line is classic. It’s a spoof call in show with Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson probably being the most famous participants, staring Rhys Thomas as the host Gary Bellamy and featuring Amelia Bullmore, Simon Day, Felix Dexter and Lucy Montgomery.

Listen to it – well quality!

I was about to say that I didn't realise that it had been going for a couple of years but then I remember how time flies, whether or not one is having fun (or diverting ones self as they say in Spanish – something that raises interesting questions around how the collective psyche of a people can be affected by the necessarily limited language with which they can express their thoughts and feelings). But of course, it's been a while. I do love clever parody and for that you can't beat Radio 4 x
